Swimwear Shape and Style Guide

Swim Boutique Swimwear Shape and Style Guide

We are passionate about the fact that every woman can look good and feel good in the right swimwear. Our swimsuits, tankinis and bikinis are designed to make you look good and feel good so here are our tips on how to choose the best styles for your body shape.

Our swimwear is all front lined for tummy control and our Premiere collection is fully lined front and back for ultimate swimwear comfort. Many of our swimsuits, tankinis and bikinis are designed to provide tummy control in the shape of the swimwear, such as crossover front panels, shaped front seams and clever necklines, combined with ruching in all the right places and not forgetting hidden bust support.

No matter what your shape or size a well fitting swimsuit, tankini or bikini will make you feel better and give you the confidence to wear your choice of swimwear by the pool or on the beach – and enjoy yourself!

A polka dot fabric or a patterned fabric will hide those little areas you would prefer not to emphasize better than a plain fabric.Of course darker colours are always popular for a little disguise too. If you feel good in your swimwear and it fits well then you will stand up taller and look better too.It makes sense!

If you would like a little extra confidence when you wear your swimwear then look for our tummy control swimwear. It really can make you feel good and therefore look good.It is not restrictive but gives some gentle help and disguise where needed.

Skirt swimsuit styles are very popular for modestly covering the tops of thighs and bottom but also the bandeau swimsuit and bikini styles are just plain fun to wear and be seen in !! Minnie Mouse is our pet name for the red or black polka dot bandeau swimsuit and what could be more fun?

If you swim a lot or like to be in and out of the pool or sea a lot of the time then a close fitting swimsuit or tankini is a good choice. if you are really an energetic swimmer then a sleek fitting swimsuit such as a sporty swimsuit style is the first place to look but many of the sleeker styles are just as good for swimming – it does not have to say sporty but if you are looking for a style for, say , aquarobics then you can start by looking at our sporty styles.

Skirt swimsuits are not the best choice for swimming as they do take longer to dry out once you are out of the water but they are a super choice if you are more of a sunshine girl than a water baby but looking for a bit more modesty.

Tankinis are often overlooked as figure shaping swimwear but with the right ruching they can be very effective at pulling in the waist and therefore helping to create a naturally curvy shape.Don’t just take our word for it, why not try one or two of our figure shaping tankinis and you will be amazed – you can send them back if you are not entirely happy!

Bandeau swimsuits are a great choice for sunning your shoulders and are very popular but we know you can feel that they may slide down a little. We have a strong grip strip in all our bandeau tops and usually a tie neck (which can be worn or removed) so unless you are being really energetic they are good at staying in place and making you look good and feel good which is what they are designed to do.

We know it is difficult to tell from a picture which swimsuit will suit you best so we have a returns policy which means that as long as swimwear is returned in saleable condition and unworn ( yes of course you have to try it on, maybe more than once !) then we are happy to refund you. So don’t be shy – try the styles and colours you like the look of – you just won’t know if it suit you until you do !!

Whether you are Hourglass, Apple- shaped, Pear, Plus-sized or Boyish we have something to make you look and feel special. Don’t forget that colour can make a huge difference too. Black is classic and can be dressed up with different coloured sarongs (take a look at our little black swimsuits, bikinis and tankinis) but why not try brighter swimwear colour? It can bring a zing to your look and lift your mood instantly.

HOURGLASS

Draw attention to your waist and make the most of your curves. Your figure shape looks good in a bikini as well as a one-piece swimsuit. If you are larger on top then wear a good supportive bra-style bikini top.

Halter-neck bikini tops are also good for hourglass figures as they support and give you a demure 50’s feel to your curves.

Avoid cut-out or asymmetric swimsuits as they tend to make you look chunky rather than flattering your curves.

Try the sweetheart neckline swimsuits or moulded cup bikinis – you will look good in them .

APPLE SHAPED

Draping or ruching around the torso is brilliant for apple shapes and hides a multitude of sins.

Boy shorts will cut your legs off so go for higher cut-out bottoms to draw attention to your legs.Emphasize your good bits!

Swimsuits with vertical panels down the sides will help streamline your shape.

If you don’t want to wear a full swimsuit then tankinis are a good alternative especially ones with high-waisted bottoms.

Try any of the crossover swimsuits as they really do give some shape as do the ruched tankinis.

PEAR

Draw attention to your upper body and less to your bottom half.

Try using prints cleverly – a bikini with a printed top and plain bottom enhances your top and disguises the area you want to hide.

If you are lacking on top, even out your shape with an under-wired or a padded top.Avoid ties on the bikini bottoms as these may dig in and cause un-wanted bulges.

Try the palm print tankini as it has great print to draw attention towards the top and away from the bottom or one of the moulded cup swimsuits , tankinis or bikinis which add a bit of padding to your top. Polka dot or plain these can give a balance to your shape and in bright colours they are fun too.

PLUS – SIZE

A one-piece swimsuit will lengthen your torso and will pull you in but so will the right tankini .

You can make the most of swimsuits with light padding for support, quality linings, vertical seams and panels.

Opt for darker colours and black as these flatter whereas lighter colours show off lumps and bumps and none of us feel confident if we do that. Vertical and diagonal stripes are also a winner so take a look at our striped and watery designs to make the most of these.

Wide straps are not only comfortable because they support your bust but they also even out your figure by creating a balanced shape.

Try the sweetheart neckline or crossover styles and don’t dismiss those tankinis and bikinis. You can look good in the right shape and colour. Be brave and try a few – you can send them back if they don’t fit or you don’t feel comfortable or confident in them or if you just plain change your mind !

BOYISH

Create the illusion of curves with ruffles, frills and bow details.

Skirted or frilled bikini bottoms are perfect for giving the illusion of hips.Prints are an advantage to boyish figures – horizontal stripes will add width.

A halter-neck will pull in the bust and create a cleavage, in a bikini or tankini.

Make the most of your shape; you can get away with trying most styles!
